Restructuring Storage Unit Ministry:

We are in the process of reorganizing volunteers and their activities in S.U.M. We are hoping to have a three-part volunteer structure as we move forward:

  • Dispatcher: Will handle the detailed, administrative needs of the ministry.

    Shopping for supplies – this job needs to be done periodically and would involve shopping at Costco or another store to purchase household items like toilet paper, paper towels, towels, soap, toothpaste, etc… that are given out by SUM.

    Organization of storage unit – this job is ongoing and can be done by any SUM volunteers.
  • Delivery Team: Volunteers with, or without vehicles to move furniture, who are willing to lift, load, and move furniture and household goods, picking up those that have been donated, and delivering to those in need. Keeping storage unit organized as things come in and go out. Reimbursement for mileage is available to those performing ministry in their vehicles.  

  • Prayer Team: Volunteers who enjoy talking with people and can be the friendly, outgoing prayer support during deliveries. They will also hope to connect folks receiving from the ministry back to other church resources at SAC whenever possible.

    Volunteers might function in one, two or all three of these areas, depending on their gifts and preferences.

    SUM runs year-round, so we get calls for donations and needs all through the year, on average 150 deliveries per year and collecting over 200 donations per year as well.

    We are currently in the process of determining the primary delivery days and times of SUM pickups and delivery availability. We believe weekday evenings and Saturday mornings will be primary days and times.

Storage Unit Ministry Team
Our Storage Unit Ministry Team delivers gently used household items to individuals and families who are making a "fresh start" in life and need some help putting a home together.

  • Did you just move into a place and are in need of some basic household items and/or furniture to get started?
  • Are these items ones that you can't afford to purchase on your own?

Call 503.581.2129 x241 and leave a message for our volunteer team that will contact you to see if there is a way we can come alongside you in your time of need.

Donations come from the church family as well as others in the community. Donations of household furniture and items in very good or almost new condition (as well as new) can be made to this ministry at any time. Please note that we do not accept appliances or sleeper sofas. Call 503.581.2129 x241 if you have a donation. Some donations can be picked up at your home.
